USAF C-130 Hercules
 This painting is a mixture of acrylic base with oil paint overlay.

Title: C-130 MERCY MISSION.
Description: Lockheed C-130 Hercules Military transport plane of the United States Air Force.
Tower control issues an instruction to the pilot to "Line up and wait" on the runway. The plane is about to depart from its base on a mercy mission to take emergency medical supplies to a ship in distress far out in the ocean. A massive storm front approaches and rain lashes the airstrip as the sun sets, causing a golden glow. The tower clears the plane for take off. The pilot opens the throttles and the propellers whip up a water spray as it lurches forward.
Power Plant Four Allison T56-A-15 turboprops;
4,300 horsepower, each engine. Length 97 feet, 9 inches (29.3 meters).
Height 38 feet, 3 inches (11.4 meters).

SAAF Puma Military Helicopter

Title: Puma - Going Home.
Description: Three South African Air Force personnel take their last walk to the Puma Military helicopter after doing duty on the border. SAAF Westland / Aerospatial AS330 Pums HC1- No longer in service with the South African Air Force, I painted the aircraft in the origional livery of the Oryx 1231 currently based at 87 Heli Flying School at Air Force Base Bloemspruit in Central South Africa. The Puma has subsequently been phased out of service and replaced by the Oryx with higher performance and maneuverability.

Spitfire MK-1 Battle of Britain WW2
 Supermarine MK-1A Spitfire patrols the London skies over the Thames estuary during the Battle of Britain

Description: Spitfire MK 1A WW2 fighter.
The first production Spitfire, the Mk-I was powered by a Merlin III giving 1,030 hp and a maximum speed of 367 mph. This make mostly fought in the Battle of Britain. It entered service in 1938 with 19 and 66 Squadrons. In all some 1,566 Mk-I Spitfires were produced.
Although in squadron service, with armour plate for pilot protection added, the top speed was more likely to be 345 mph. The first batch had a straight topped cockpit canopy, later changed for the bulge type. Originally fitted with wooden two-blade fixed pitch propellers, they were later equipped with de Havilland three-bladed variable pitch airscrews. Armament was either eight Browning .303 calibre machine guns (MK-IA) or two 20 mm cannons and four machine guns (MK-1B).
The cannon version was not produced in great quantity; the early cannon installations were not very satisfactory and prone to the mechanism jamming. The Spitfire MK-I entered service in 1938 with 19 and 66 Squadrons. In all some 1,566 Mk-I Spitfires were produced.

Description: Mirage F1-Z of the South African Airforce flies over Cape Point, the tip of the Cape Peninsular with Table Mountain and Cape Town on the horison. The fighter plane exceeds Mach 1.5 as it accelarates to 30 000 ft during its patrol of the South African coastline.

Title: Late Arrival - Harvard
Description: SAAF North American Harvard T-6 banks over Port Elizabeth south of the Airport to announce its late arrival and to request permission to land. The first prototype flew in 1937, the T6G had a top speed of 341 kmh at sea level with an operational ceiling of 6500m.
A batch of 9 Mk I's were delivered between 1940 and 1942, and the SAAF took delivery of their first batch of Harvard Mk II's in 1942, with deliveries continuing until four Harvards were purchased from the Belgian Air Force in 1961.
The SAAF operated a number of variants, including the MkII (Designated in the US as AT-6C), Mk III's (designated in the US as AT-6D or SJN-4) and the T-6G, the rebuilt version of World War II vintage machines. (Extract from SAAF Museum web site)

It had a combination of a short-coupled fuselage, heavy, powerful rotary engine and concentrated fire from twin synchronized machine guns. The new MkIX proved vastly superior. It lasted a long time, 5665 being built, the second highest number of any Spitfire Mark.
