After seeing their matchup thrown into disarray by the coronavirus, Pedro Munhoz and Frankie Edgar will get their chance to fight this summer.
Munhoz (18-4, 1 NC) and Edgar (23-8-1) were scheduled to fight on July 15 at a “Fight Island” show, but the bantamweight bout was postponed when Munhoz tested positive for COVID-19. On Saturday, officials announced that the bout has been re-booked for the UFC 252 pay-per-view that takes place on Aug. 15 at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
Also announced were previously reported matchups between Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera, Magomed Ankalaev and Ion Cutelaba, and Junior dos Santos vs. Jair Rozenstruik.
Munhoz is coming off of a unanimous decision loss to Aljamain Sterling, a setback that snapped a three-fight losing streak. Prior to that, Munhoz had won consecutive bouts against Cody Garbrandt, Bryan Caraway, and Brett Johns.
Edgar seeks his first win since April 2018 as well as his first win at 135 pounds. “The Answer” previously competed at 145 and 155 pounds, holding the UFC lightweight title from April 2010 to February 2012. He has lost two straight fights and three of his last four.
UFC 252 will be headlined by a heavyweight championship trilogy bout between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier.
